Elders Insurance Batemans Bay has been family owned and operated for two decades. Husband and wife team Ray and Chris Millynn established the agency, and their son Sam joined the team ten years ago.
Together the three run a business with trust and transparency at its core, where customers have come to know and appreciate the Millynn’s special brand of personal service.
“We’re here to help people. It’s all about making insurance transparent and easy to understand. I enjoy setting up policies properly, so if need be, they flow into straightforward claims for our clients. The Elders network is known for providing a local touch and that’s what we’re about here. Our agency has a longstanding and trusted name in the community thanks to mum and dad.” said Sam.
Ray added, “I love the diversity of our clients. Through mutual trust, you build a bond with people and develop great friendships.”
But Sam hadn’t always planned on joining family business. After finishing school, he became a qualified chef. After travelling extensively and juggling a hectic schedule, Sam and his wife were in search of an opportunity for Sam to use his aptitude for business, while achieving more balance. So, when the opportunity to join the family business presented itself, Sam jumped at the chance and hasn’t looked back.
“I always had an interest in finance, so when the Elders Insurance job popped up it was a no-brainer,” explained Sam.
Sam and Ray said as a family team, open communication comes easily and means they often collaborate on customer and business solutions.
Ray said, “We’re pretty open with each other. The three-way conversation is good for bouncing ideas.”
Sam adds, “It works well. My folks have lots of knowledge that they’ve been passing on to me over the years and I bring a fresh set of eyes that combined, helps create great results and solutions for our clients.”
Sam, Ray and Chris are passionate about the tight-knit Batemans Bay area community and locals can count on the family team to be there when times get tough.
Recently this meant supporting the community through the devastating impact of the 2019/2020 bushfires. It was a huge challenge for the tourist town, particularly given the timing of peak holiday season at Christmas.
Following the immediate aftermath of the bushfires, the Elders Insurance Batemans Bay office became the command centre for claims. It was a hive of activity and central point of contact where locals came together for help. For almost six months, Ray, Chris, Sam and their team worked non-stop processing bushfire claims.
Ray said, “It was very difficult, but the customers knew we’d be there for them. They feel secure with Elders Insurance and they tell us they’d never go anywhere else.
"I get emotional when I think about how much support we got from the Elders Insurance network to help our customers. They truly cared about each person, and every claim,” said Ray.
Ray, Sam and Chris helped outside of their day jobs too, going above and beyond.
“We were hugely proud to help the community. One family lost their shed full of motorbikes and toys. Together with the local footy club, we helped with the clean-up and replaced all the kids’ Christmas presents. It was really special to be able to help.”
