Strike Force Team aims to protect business property in the Northern Territory

24 April 2013

It has been reported today that a number of businesses in Coconut Grove, a small suburb in the city of Darwin, have been broken into.

The first few businesses (at least six have been reported) were targeted between April 3 and 8, and are located on Caryota Court, Totem Road and De Latour Street.

"A further four businesses were broken into last night," said Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer in an April 24 statement. He believes the offenders were primarily looking for money.

This situation is currently being investigated by the Northern Territory's 'Strike Force Trident' group. A branch of the Police, Fire and Emergency Services, this team of crime fighters was created in September last year.

They are currently responsible for the apprehension of over 500 suspects accused of committing more than 1,800 offences in the area.

The force has taken a stringent stance on getting these criminals into court, and this year alone they've arrested 227 people for everything from aggravated assault to unlawful
entry, criminal damage to stealing.

"Trident was established to target recidivist property crime offenders,", Detective Stringer said in an April 19 statement.

He also revealed that 77 per cent of the people that have been arrested by Strike Force Trident are "hardcore repeat offenders".

Detective Stringer states that the number of property related crimes he's seen in Darwin, Palmerston and rural areas have all significantly decreased since the force was founded.

Business owners in the Northern Territory should be able to sleep a little easier knowing that there's a team of hard-working and highly trained officers striving to protect their property.

However, a business property insurance plan could help you sleep even easier.

With a business insurance policy in place, your physical assets can be readily repaired or replaced should they be lost or damaged as a result of unlawful entry into your premises.
