More and more technology is seeping through into the Australian agriculture sector, with the standard of farming only set to benefit.
Following the news from last month that an ingenious app was set to be rolled out to cattle farmers, is 'ag tech' set to sweep across Australia and beyond?
As reported by CNBC and Y7Finance, Randy Komisar, a partner at the venture capital firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers explained the potential that the sector holds. "We are talking about a multi-trillion dollar global market that is ripe for improvement with new technologies at all levels."
The need for increases in global food production - and the role that the Australian market will play in that development - is likely to drive the use of technology in the agriculture sector to levels never seen before.
There are a number of technologies that could prove relatively cost effective for farms of all shapes and sizes to implement. Two of those are as follows:
Drone technology
The use of drones fitted with state-of-the-art cameras could be set to become the easiest way to do everything from the general surveying of farm land to keeping an eye on and locating any stray animals which may have broken away from their respective herd.
Streamlined processes
Technology which enables farmers to do everything from keeping track of the weights of their livestock, to processing dairy produce is likely to be implemented into one system. Utilising cloud-technology in the future, farms right across Australia will have the ability to integrate and streamline all of their processes, ultimately boosting productivity.
The ag tech sector looks set to grow exponentially across Australia in the coming months and years. Checking that all of your existing - and any new - equipment is adequately insured is now more crucial than ever. Elders Insurance can offer farm insurance policies which will help you ensure that your livelihood is correctly covered, should any unfortunate incidents occur.
