Super Trade Missions could help Victorian businesses grow

1 April 2014

Since 2011, the Victorian government has organised 65 Super Trade Missions to key markets all over the world, including China, South East Asia, India and the Middle East.

As a result, more than $4 billion in export opportunities for businesses in a wide range of industries across the state have been generated.

In 2014, Minister for Employment and Trade Louise Asher is hoping to increase that amount with a Super Trade Mission to the Middle East, Turkey and India. Over 200 Victorian business owners will travel to these key markets, along with a number of senior State Government Ministers.

Ms Asher explained that, in particular, the Victorian government is looking to "explore new trade and investment opportunities" in the agricultural, food and beverage, and education industries, to name just a few.

According to Minister for Agriculture and Food Security Peter Walsh, Victoria is "Australia's largest supplier of food and fibre to the Middle East. The state's main exports to this region are grain and dairy, which account for 43 per cent of the produce sent over.

Mr Walsh believes this Super Trade Mission will provide those operating in the agriculture and food and beverage industries with the chance to either "increase sales or begin exporting to the region for the first time".

He is also optimistic about the trade and investment opportunities that may arise in India, which is currently one of the fastest-growing export markets and Down Under's fourth-largest two-way trading partner.

More trade and investment opportunities in the Middle East, Turkey and India could see Victorian business owners looking to expand their horizons.

If you do grow your company in 2014 - whether by taking on new employees or developing a new product or service - make sure you review your farm or business insurance, and update your policy if need be.
