Australia's grape-growers need protection

19 September 2013

On September 16, Wine Grape Growers Australia (WGGA) announced that it has a number of projects in the pipeline which should ensure the "future security of Australia's grape-growing businesses".

Rachel Barratt, who has just been appointed as the National Winegrape Biosecurity Program Coordinator, stated that over the next year new policies and strategies will be developed to protect vineyards around the country against biosecurity threats.

Vic Patrick, chairman of the WGGA, said that "the costs of a potential biosecurity event could be the final blow for many growers.

"You only have to look at the Papaya Fruit Fly outbreak in Queensland to see just how much a major pest or disease outbreak can cost an industry".

Australia's grape-growers should be pleased to hear that steps are being taken to protect their crops. If you would like to facilitate this endeavor, you may want to consider your crop insurance options.

Why choose Elders Insurance?

If you choose to organise business or farm insurance with Elders Insurance, you will receive a number of benefits.

1) Local - because we have businesses located all over Australia, you will be receiving advice and support from an Elders Insurance agent that is familiar with your region and the risks associated with it.

This agent can also offer you "on-farm service," which means they can actually visit your property and organise an insurance policy based on their own assessment. As a result, you are less likely to be underinsured and have gaps in your cover.

2) Efficient - we pride ourselves on processing claims as efficiently as possible, and keeping our clients informed at every stage. The fact that you can visit one of our agencies and discuss your claim in person rather than over the phone makes the process a lot easier, too.
