Study: internet "most useful" research tool for insurance

20 September 2013

According to a study that was recently conducted by Roy Morgan Research, the largest independent research company in Australia, more and more people are taking to the internet to research farm and business insurance options.

The study reveals that in the year leading to June 2013, 49.6 per cent of all Australians in possession of some form of insurance identified the internet as the "most useful" research tool when it comes to choosing an insurance provider.

Scouring the internet for farm liability insurance or business vehicle insurance was once solely the domain of the "internet-savvy," reveals Roy Morgan Research, but it has now become a more mainstream activity.

"The vast majority of the population are now using the internet on a daily basis, spending more and more time online and becoming more comfortable conducting financial transactions via the web," said Norman Morris, industry communications director, Roy Morgan Research, in a September 12 statement.

Mr Morris added that it is now more important than ever for insurance providers to "create effective customer engagement through the internet" and optimise their digital presence.
